THE STORY OF SD

Slovansky dum was built up of two medieval houses based in the primary part of the town. Historical records say that smaller one was bought by squire Janek One-Eyed, gatekeeper in close Royal Court about year of 1414. There are speculations that he was famous chieftain and Hussite Jan Zizka of Trocnov. During the centuries tens of holders had this house – craftsmen and tradesmen, knights, gentlemen, barons and counts. House was countlessly changed including renaissance and baroque re-buildings. But the most important change came in 17th century, when new holder, Jan Barolomej, baron Vernier de Rougemont, imperial cavalry captain and lord of Lipnice and Svetla nad Sazavou bought the house. He rebuilt it into baroque palace with geometrically fashioned French garden leading towards Jindrisska street. This noble lineage gave to Slovansky dum an alias as Vernier palace listed in Index of Czech Republic historical monuments. In 1799 the Tuskany's accomodated whole general staff of Russian expedition corps, including archduke Konstantin and generalissimus Suvorov. Tuskany's started to use palace for trade and production too and next holder, Leopold Dormitzer, developed it much more by building an textile factory here. In neighbourhood many hotels, cafes and banks were established and production was about to stop. In 1873 a guild of Deutsche Kasino gained house called German house since this time. After WWII, in 1945 the palace was expropriated and renamed to Slovansky dum (Slavic House). Here were organized gastronomical festivities, company parties, balls, concerts and meetings in following years. In year of 1997 house came in holding of PKSC. House was completely reconstructed into form of baroque/secession palace with three modern administration buildings in area of 32.000m2. Slovansky dum offers to its visitors the best restaurants in centre of Prague, shops of well known world brands, astonishing secession ballrooms and modern multi-cinema with 10 airconditioned halls and capacity 1.839 seats.
